A prefix at the front of the potion name will tell you how strong it is. There are seven different solvents to chose from. When crafting potions, the solvent used will determine the potency of the potion. This method will help you learn all the traits quickly while also improving your skill. Do this though the whole list, then swap out the first reagent with the second one and go through the list again. Next go down the list and swap the second reagent with the next one in the list.
Then add the second reagent and a solvent and press "R" to craft the potion. When starting out put the reagent at the top of the list in the first slot. 12 are positive traits and the other 12 are negative traits. Combining them to make potions is the quickest way to learn the traits. To learn the traits of each reagent your can taste one to learn the first trait or you can combine them to make a potion, and learn the trait for two reagents at the same time.
The traits are what determine the properties of the potion.
